Lovejoy Book Scholarship

  • For the past 10 years, KIZ has hosted its annual Lovejoy Book Scholarship Brunch in May. This occasion not only awards female high school graduates, past recipients and graduate Zetas with financial assistance, but also allows the chapter to continue the legacy of literacy left by the beloved Marynette B. Lovejoy.  Funds for the scholarship are from individual donations and the Miss Blue Revue Pageant held semi annually by the chapter.

Marynette Lovejoy was an original charter member of Kappa Iota Zeta Chapter. She was an educator in the Georgia Public School System for 38 years. She was most respected in the community as a noted Librarian and community activist.  This esteemed member of Zeta Phi Beta for 57 years, passed away in February of 1998 and Zeta member Tecia McKay suggested that we re-name our book scholarship in her honor.

Mrs. Lovejoy loved children and books; therefore, the book scholarships carry her name in memory of her work and accolades.  She was married to John D. Lovejoy for 48 years, had four children, John, Juanita (Gwen), Sylvia and Jenelsia,  7 grandchildren, 11 great grand children and 1 great great grandchild.
